In June 2021 our team successfully completed our first medical mission in Northern Sierra Leone. The need, however, was far greater than we anticipated. As as result, we planned for another medical mission to Sierra Leone in March 2022. These missions target areas of great medical need, providing primary and acute care, as well as social needs.
Our 2022 medical mission was the first medical encounter for 95% of our patients in the Yurika Community (84 Villages). Most of the patients we encountered during our mission have never sought healthcare services due to lack of affordability, transportation, access, and health literacy.
Founder, Kadija Conteh-Barrat now conducts a medical mission at least twice a year, going from her home in Virginia, U.S. to Sierra Leone where she greets and treats hundreds of patients on each trip. The amazing medical staff and volunteer team in Sierra Leone, under Kadija's guidance, now provides year-round medical care to thousands of patients.
Donations of high-quality products from MAP international, Americares, Kingsway Charities, and CMMB allowed our medical mission and our free community health clinic in Yurika to address normally unmet healthcare needs in these communities. The need/capacity, however, is greater still compared to our limited resources, especially where facility size, medications, and medical supplies are concerned. For us to continue having an impact and improving health outcomes in these communities, we must build a sustainable healthcare system that ensures continuity of care and addresses social determinants of health within these communities.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve conditions. Your generous donation will fund our mission.
