Inspired by Manak Community Health Organization's mission and the work of Kadija Conteh-Barrat, in 2022 as a 5th grader, Ren (far right) and her friends held the First Annual MaCHO Book and Art Supply Drive! The donated books will help supply Manak Community Health Organization's brand new library in honor of Steven Klass, which we hope to have completed in 2023 with your support. The art supplies are being donated to children in Yurika, Manak, and surrounding villages. "We all love to read and think that all kids should have books. That is why we are proud to play a part in this," says Ren.
Ren's school and neighborhood communities have already donated over 1800 books and several boxes of school and art supplies! Her grandfather, Steven Klass, for whom the library is named, has also received hundreds of books and workbooks from his former teaching colleagues!
Ren, and the whole MaCHO team, believe that literacy is central to achieving the health outcomes and quality of life that the people of Sierra Leone deserve.
To date, nearly 1,500 books and 4 boxes of art supplies have been donated during Ren's first book drive!
